Nuclear Man gets an atomic beatdown in Captain Marvel No. 5
By Alex Widen
A Radiation Power Character Melts Down. It Must Be a Weekday!
Unlike Nuclear Man, who just wants pawns, slaves, and concubines, Carol Danvers wants friends, allies, and soldiers at her back. She spent the last two issues rallying all the women of the island, from super-heroines to scared civilians, around her. It worked so well that they didn’t need Carol to bring the cavalry — although having Jennifer Walters as a second in command is no small potatoes. The former A-Force leader has rallied everyone in Carol’s stead, and they are ready for one last battle!

Unfortunately, so is Nuclear Man. Mahkizmo bragged that he’d hidden a bomb within Carol’s ranks, which is capable of killing her revolution instantly. It turns out that the bomb isn’t an object, but a person. Som himself seems to be a living nuclear battery, absorbing all the radiation around him to an uncontrollable degree. Now, he’s starting to glow and enter a meltdown mode, all to his ignorance and horror. Som begs Carol to kill him but, ever the hero, she chooses another way.

Realizing having a power-absorbing member of the team is handy, Carol asks Rogue to use her powers once more to drain Som’s powers away from him. This has the after effect of restoring the radiation based powers of Carol’s allies. That means Spider-Woman, Hazmat, and especially, She-Hulk are back to full vigor! Flanked by Echo and Rogue, Nuclear Man quickly has a whole squad of Avengers ladies baring down on him!
