Leia and Trios come to final blows in Star Wars No. 66

The Empire is bombarding the throne of Shu-Torun with Han, Leia, and Trios inside of it all while Luke tries to escape from the Partisans bent on destroying the planet. Spoilers for Star Wars no. 66 follow.

Leia and Trios’ forces continue to fight each other until the realization hits them that they need to evacuate the citadel that they’re currently in, due to the Empire’s bombardment of the planet. However, despite the Rebels attempting to escape with their lives, to really no avail, Trios is out for blood, specifically Leia’s.

Leia and Trios end up fighting each other in a brutal fashion, leading to the death of Trios. Before she dies though, she tells Leia that her plan to just take out the Spire, thus effectively crippling Shu-Torun, has gone awry and that the planet is on its way to destruction. Before Trios dies though, Leia promises to stop the planet from being destroyed, unlike Alderaan.

Luke’s mission has completely gone off the rails though with him and R2-D2 fleeing from the rest of the Partisans so that they can’t use R2 to destroy the planet. Nothing goes Luke’s way though when he tries to put obstacles in their path, leading him to being captured. The Partisans give R2 an ultimatum, insert the codes needed to overload or Luke dies.

Kieron Gillen is wrapping up his run in pretty solid fashion with “The Scourging of Shu-Torun.” There really feels to be a lot of stakes being built up in this story. Star Wars, as a franchise, has felt a bit unpredictable with where things go and this story doesn’t necessarily feel like you know where it’s going.

Star Wars no. 66 is a solid penultimate issue to this arc as well as Kieron Gillen’s run on Star Wars.
