Monsters run amok in Sabrina the Teenage Witch No. 2
By Alex Widen
Monsters, Monsters, Everywhere!
Perhaps the greatest fear of any teenage girl in pop culture fiction isn’t slasher villains or abandoned warehouses, it’s tentacle monsters. A giant octopus creature emerges from the ground and seems intent on feasting on Sabrina and her new friends (and rival). Still injured and disoriented, Spellman casts an incantation which hides the four of them form the monster’s sight, which causes it to slink off in frustration — at least as quickly as an octopus the size of a Winnebago can!

The night ends with more questions than answers. Ren may be unaware that he’s somehow half of a wendigo, his sister Radka is actively keeping it a secret from him. The incident rattles her enough that she even apologizes to Jessa, which for the bulling Amazon is a rarity. Sabrina manages to convince both Ren and Jessa that they’d all hallucinated on gas from a random leaky pipe, which is a lie that Radka helps her push. Just how did she and her brother become bound to a wendigo? Historically the monster symbolizes cannibalism, yet the excessively greedy and selfish were also prone to it. If that’s true, then half of Wall Street should be growing claws!

The last thing Sabrina wants to do is discuss the incident with her aunts, who are all far more into the “witch thing” than she is. Unfortunately, Hilda and Zelda don’t need magic to know that the teen in their house is hiding something. After tending to her wounds with herbs and potions, the pair want to know more about the incident. Honoring the promise she made to Radka, Sabrina only reveals the tentacle monster, which she dubs a “Kraken.” With a mystery afoot, it’s time to head to the “witch-cave!”
