By Monita Mohan
Jabba the Hutt is renowned for being a ruthless gangster on Tatooine. But there’s more to him than that, as we see in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion.
In the latest Star Wars: Age of Rebellion, Jabba the Hutt slides into the spotlight as the smartest gangster on Tatooine. He knows how to play all sides to his advantage especially when the cargo is a vintage and rare wine.
The issue begins on Canto Bight where a bounty hunter arrives with some precious cargo – sacred wine known as Tusken Wind. Each glass goes for 10,000 credits and it tastes divine. When the bartender runs out of the heavenly elixir, two bounty hunters take it upon themselves to track down the source of this drink. It leads them straight to Jabba’s palace where they see a different side to the fabled menacing Hutt. Jabba decides against executing some Tuskens, even though his reputation suggests that this would have been Jabba’s first course of action. Has Jabba turned over a new leaf, wonder the bounty hunters?

Though Jabba refuses to divulge the location of the Tuskens to the hunters at first, he gives them some hints that supposedly lead them to the Tusken camps.
But if you thought Jabba was that soft, you’re wrong! In an unexpected turn of events, it appears that Jabba has had an ulterior plan all along. To find out what it was you will have to read this delightfully clever instalment in the series.
Despite lacking any action, this issue of Star Wars: Age of Rebellion was suspenseful and exciting and a true testament to why we needed this series to begin with. It’s to entertain and also add to the material of the films. The creators chose not to indulge the sleazier side of Jabba’s fiefdom, which is much appreciated. From the art to the story, Star Wars: Age Of Rebellion – Jabba The Hutt (2019) No. 1 is the kind of slice-of-life tale everyone can enjoy.
It’s a pity it took this long for Star Wars: Age Of Rebellion segment of the series to pick up but better late than never.
