MCU: 15 Marvel characters who deserve more screen time
1. Agent Peggy Carter
You might initially think that putting someone who headlined two seasons of her own TV show in the top spot is a little unusual, but that in itself is exactly why Peggy Carter deserves more screen time. Just like how her placement in the 1940s limited her big-screen appearances (given that most MCU films took place in and around the modern day), her chance to shine in her own TV series was also limited because Agent Carter was unjustly cancelled after two seasons.
None of that, however, stopped her from shining when she was on-screen.
Introduced as Steve Rogers’ love-interest in Captain America: The First Avenger, Peggy Carter immediately proved that she was anything but just a love-interest. With an incredibly charismatic performance from Hayley Atwell (who shared some insane chemistry with Chris Evans) and strong writing, Peggy quickly became a fan-favorite who constantly opposed the norms of the time-period and highlighted just how formidable women can truly be.
Though every subsequent film appearance would be limited to guest spots and cameos, she once again shined on TV in the short-lived but brilliant Agent Carter, as the character continued to challenge stereotypes and change opinions as she investigated espionage, battled Hydra and even confronted the first supernatural elements to emerge in the MCU.
Although Peggy’s return in Avengers: Endgame provided a fulfilling conclusion to her arc, there is still so much of her story that has yet to be told, primarily her involvement in the creation of S.H.I.E.L.D. With Marvel once again venturing into the world of streaming=service TV through Disney+, it’s time to revive Agent Carter and give Peggy the justice (and screen time) she deserves.
We know her value and, quite frankly, so should Marvel.
