It’s been a busy time for Rogue, also known by the title as “Mrs. X.” She was tricked into heading to Roosevelt Island by the Nuclear Man, and getting involved in a fight with Captain Marvel. That doesn’t mean that her husband Gambit, a.k.a. Remy LeBeau, is a house-husband. Far from it; he’s been lured to New Orleans by his father, who tells him of poor tidings at home. Having escaped the drama of the Thieves and Assassins’ Guilds as a youth, Remy has been unable to do so as an adult. He’s even currently considered “the King of Thieves” by his guild, yet has punted that title since his last ongoing series in 2013.

Yet this time, Gambit knows he can’t punt it any longer. The Thieves and Assassins’ Guilds turned up during his belated engagement party in issue six. His ex-wife Belladonna is the head of the Assassins’ Guild, while a few grunts from the Thieves Guild fought them. They’ve also popped up in Amazing Spider-Man and (soon to be) Black Cat. Unfortunately, heading to New Orleans quietly has become harder ever since the official end of the X-Men. Fortunately, Remy is used to sneaking around.

The story of the state of mutant affairs is all over Louisiana’s newspapers. The X-Men are seemingly destroyed, and mutants are on the run. The few states that shelter them face political pressure, and Louisiana isn’t one of them. Yet there are rumors of a new mutant underground emerging, which as far as Remy knows is being run by Cyclops and Wolverine. While he’d love to fight alongside them again, Remy knows his place is in cleaning up this latest mess from his past. He only hopes his wife Rogue is wiser than he is.
