The whodunnit of DC Comics concludes with a touching tribute to Wally West’s emotional and personal struggles while also accepting that he isn’t above the law. After it was revealed that Wally was behind the mass murders at the superhero crisis facility Sanctuary, Heroes in Crisis No. 9 shows Batgirl, Harley Quinn, Booster Gold, and Ted Kord hypothesizing that Wally West has run five days into the future to set in motion the events following the massacre. But what is their mission?

Stopping Wally from completing his task – killing his future self and planting his dead body alongside Roy Harper’s – will cause a rift in the timestream, but this cycle has to end. It’s up to Wally to make a decision that will change his future forever. While older Wally desperately tries to help his younger self, Booster Gold comes up with an idea that will allow the events of the series to play out as planned, while also giving Wally the chance to turn himself in to the Justice League. Thus, the multiverse is protected.

We have written extensively about the trials and travails of Heroes in Crisis, and this final issue valiantly attempts to come to terms with the Frankenstein’s monster that this series has become. Wally’s mental suffering caused him to make a terrible, fatal mistake, and he’s been running from that guilt ever since. But Wally realizes in Heroes in Crisis No. 9 that he can’t keep running – there’s no getting away from what he’s done.
