Have they stumbled into an episode of “The Walking Dead?”
The latest volume of Captain Marvel reaches its second arc, as well as its first crossover tie-in. As far as crossovers go, War Of The Realms is a simple enough concept. One of Thor’s villains — Malekith the Accursed — has conquered the Earth and spread his legions of monsters from Asgard across the world. All it takes to “tie in” is to present a story in which the heroes fight random Norse monsters and/or Thor rogues. In this case, Amora the Enchantress is about to make her presence felt!
Amora is commanding a legion of zombies in Rio de Janeiro, and only Black Widow and Winter Soldier are available to confront her! They’re holding their ground at best, and delaying the inevitable at worst. When Natasha spots an opportunity to attack Amora, she takes it despite the odds. And while she’s little more than a distraction for the immortal sorceress, Natasha appears to share a magical vision with Amora. The blonde-haired vixen has a prophecy of being defeated by three heroes in Rio — Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, and Natasha herself.

While Bucky thinks more like a soldier and is eager to hold their ground, Natasha has been an Avenger for years, and is aware of the power of a good team-up. She quickly makes a strategic retreat from the zombie brawl to contact Carol Danvers. Having just gotten back from her ordeal against the Nuclear Man while also being a member of the “main” Avengers team, Captain Marvel is running herself ragged. She’s literally slept only 19 minutes within the last 3 days — and even that was almost by accident!
