Sophia Taylor Ali

An actress who already has a good reference from Mindy Kaling after being featured on her show The Mindy Project. Ali is best known for her TV work in Grey’s Anatomy and Faking it. As well as her first major movie role in the Horror film Truth or Dare.

A quality I looked for when scything through actresses other than them being Muslim of course – your boy doesn’t whitewash – is their comedic chops. Not only do you need solid comedic timing to be part of the MCU crowd, but Khan’s charming and lighthearted personality needs to be portrayed by an actress with some experience in comedy.

Ali’s time on Grey’s Anatomy showed off her ability to bounce back and forth from dramatic to lighthearted wit. She also fangirled hard over some of the star doctors on the show like Meredith Grey, a trait Khan is known for with Captain Marvel.

There is only one problem if you can call it that, which die-hard fans could have.

Sophia Taylor Ali is an incredibly beautiful woman and Kamala Khan has never been drawn or wrote as being incredibly stunning. Khan is supposed to be a dweebish character who fangirls over Captain Marvel and is obsessed with comics overall.

Anyone can love superheroes though, and it’s not fair to stereotype certain women as liking or not liking comics or being nerdy. So, it’s not a problem I have personally but Ali would be portraying a much different looking Kamala than we’ve seen in the comics.

Please do not get me wrong, the next few women you are about to see are also very beautiful, but Ali is well known for her looks and it was something I wanted to point out if for nothing more but to further examine Khan’s character.
