8. Far From Home Doesn’t Actually Mean Europe
The title for Spider-Man: Far From Home created intrigue when it was first announced because it practically confirmed that the upcoming sequel isn’t going to take place in the same New York neighborhood of its predecessor. Additionally, it’s also the perfect contrast to the previous film’s title (Spider-Man: Homecoming).
When the film’s first trailer was unveiled, it confirmed that Peter would be going on a school trip to Europe so, the title immediately made sense, right? Theoretically yes, but not according to one fan.
Reddit user u/Griffsterometer has suggested that there’s more to the title than meets the eye because, at the end of the day, Europe isn’t that far from home for someone who has literally been to space and spent five years, well, dead.
This theory, like many, suggests that Jake Gyllenhaal’s Quentin Beck/Mysterio isn’t who he says he is (again, more on that later) and, being the illusionist that he is, plans to manipulate those on the MCU’s Earth for his own gain. Thus, when Peter inevitably discovers the truth about his intentions, Mysterio could end up trapping him in another dimension, where he will have to overcome his demons to escape.
Thinking about it, a lot of this theory is supported by the information that we already know about the film.
Mysterio’s introduction does appear to bring the prospect of the multiverse with it, while the vast majority of fans suspect a twist with his character. Thus, as crazy as it sounds, he could end up trapping Spidey further from home than he ever intended on being. And considering he’s practically been dead before, that’s really saying something.
