Robert Pattison is the next Batman, but who will his character potentially square off against?

For some time now speculation for Matt Reeves’ The Batman film has existed. We have the news of Robert Pattinson landing the role, which everyone knows by now. Next in many fans’ eye is who are the villains in this film?

Geeks WorldWide reported details of the villains for The Batman. People know of the rumors for Catwoman and The Penguin. However, this site is confirming them, with Catwoman as “Gotham City burglar” who “wears a tight one-piece outfit and uses a bullwhip for a weapon.” Interesting, since the last time Catwoman has a one-piece outfit is in Batman Returns. Even in the comic-books it’s been decades. Reeves wants an actress of any ethnicity between the ages of 20 and 30 for the role. This gives the Vanessa Hudgens angle some weight.

The Penguin, a “Gotham City mobster” and is a “short, obese man with a long nose, and he uses high-tech umbrellas as weapons.” We have not seen The Penguin on the big-screen in almost three decades. It is interesting they want to use high-tech umbrella weapons. Some may see this is a silly, almost silver-age gimmick. Reeves is looking for a man of any ethnicity of 20 to 40 years of age. Odd that he is such a wide range.

Now two more names are joining the roster. The first villain ready to do battle in The Batman is The Riddler. Last time The Riddler graced the big screen, Jim Carrey played him, back in 1995. There is the idea that he is the main villain, perhaps he has the other villains on his strings. Or maybe the others are simply thorns in Batman’s side. Details say he is “a criminal mastermind in Gotham City who takes delight in incorporating riddles and puzzles into his schemes, leaving them as clues for the authorities to solve.”

The Riddler basically hijacks the main villain role from Two-Face in Batman Forever. It will be interesting to see a more serious take on the villain and as the main villain from the get-go. The director is eyeballing an actor of any ethnicity between the ages of 30 and 40 years old.

Finally, there is Firefly. He has yet to come to the big screen. He shows up in some cartoons and video-games, but never on film, and is “a professional arsonist known as the “Firefly”.”

Firefly “attempts to burn all the places that he lacked the privilege to go as an orphan child.” This particular story alludes to an issue in Batman: Knightfall giving his origin. Fair to say he may play a smaller role. The idea of Firefly carrying a film like The Joker or Bane seems less than likely. Nonetheless, it is exciting, given he’s new to film. They want an actor of any ethnicity between the ages of 20 and 30 years old.

Four villains, can you believe it? A first time return for a lot of villains and a first time in general for one. It is especially interesting in how the director is open for any ethnicity to play these characters. Who knows, this may end up being a rather diverse film.
