Just Why Did They Wait so Long to Check, Anyway? Convenience?

Having been unable to reach Dr. Rosario by phone for over 24 hours, Peter (as Ms. Marvel) finally decides to pay a visit to Empire State Universe to seek her out, since that’s where she works. Surprise surprise, that’s exactly where she is! Dr. Rosario has been captured by the Jackal since the previous evening, when the two heroes thwarted his attempts to steal her mind-swap machine (dubbed “Polly”). Now, the Jackal is trying to download her life’s work from her personal computer!

As usual for superheroes, Spider-Man and Ms. Marvel have excellent timing! Dr. Rosario cares more about saving her work than herself, and the body-swap puts both heroes at a disadvantage. While Peter tries to stop the download, Kamala (as Spider-Man) takes on the Jackal. She’s mastered his form enough to competently shoot some webbing, and even land a jump kick, but the Jackal is a vicious opponent with equal physical strength, and he soon lays her low.

The Jackal may think he’s just defeated his archnemesis, but he has another thing coming. Peter’s had extreme difficulty handling Ms. Marvel’s elastic form but, when it counts, he always comes through. Seeing Kamala be beaten by one of his worst enemies brings out the best, or worst, in Peter. He finally masters the “giant fists” attack to flatten the green gargoyle with one titanic smash! And just like that, a villain who’s served in crossovers is defeated. How underwhelming.
