Mind-swapped heroes take on the Jackal in Marvel Team-Up No. 3
By Alex Widen
The Mind Swap Is Undone. Readers Will Be Shocked. Shocked!
Roughly seven pages are spent on resolving the plot which any reader by now knows will be resolved. Dr. Rosario runs some tests and comes to the conclusion that she can’t reverse the process without Polly, and that their switch may be permanent. But before Kamala can break down, Peter realizes that his current “frenemy” Curt Connors (the Lizard) created a machine that once literally split Spider-Man into two forms. Yes, the shameless knock-off of Superman Red/Superman Blue has one last gasp as a plot mechanic!

Yesenia warns that the Lizard’s Silver Age style gizmo is completely unpredictable — it may not work, or zap their memories, or even remove their powers. In other words, whatever the story may require. But c’mon, this is Marvel Team-Up; nothing is permanent here. Kamala is eager to try it, noting how who they are is more than simple biology, which Jackal didn’t understand. Spider-Man agrees and, with a confident fist-bump, the two enter the void of Jack Kirby dots.

After only a slight homage to Spider-Man: Enter The Spider-Verse thanks to Felipe Sobreiro’s colors, everything goes back to normal for the pair. Spider-Man and Ms. Marvel wind up back in their own bodies, with only short-term amnesia of everything that happened after issue one as the only side effect. This means, naturally, they forgot each other’s secret identities, or lives. The consequences are a little wilder for Yesenia, who realizes that the Silver Age’s lack of protective shielding means she got a dose of superpower-boosting energy!
