Dr. Terminal tries to eat a city in Umbrella Academy: Hotel Oblivion No. 7
By Alex Widen
Just who is Vanya’s new family in Umbrella Academy: Hotel Oblivion No. 7?
After a nine-year absence from the comic book scene, Umbrella Academy by Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba is back! In fact, it’s bigger than ever! It has a hit adaptation on Netflix and Dark Horse literally has to print “tens of thousands” of copies of trade collections from the previous comic series, Apocalypse Suite and Dallas. It certainly comics at a good time for Dark Horse Comics. The company has lost ground to IDW Publishing in recent years, and has lost many licensed comics like Usagi Yojimbo, The Goon, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Conan the Barbarian, and Star Wars!

As such, the latest comic installment of the series reaches a conclusion, and in typical fashion, it raises more questions than it answers. Some of the plot threads come together, while others are left dangling for next time. Chief among them is the journey through which Vanya has traveled to. She finds herself in Norway, having recovered from being crippled in Apocalypse Suite. Mother, the living mannequin, is waiting for her alongside what seems like another “academy” of super-powered beings.

Meanwhile, the cosmic exploration by Dr. Zoo and his Tokyo superheroes has looped back into the jailbreak of Hotel Oblivion. In a roundabout way their quest for exploration wound up leading to John Perseus III’s attempt to free his super villain father. While legions of villains are tearing the city apart, the biggest threat appears to be Doctor Terminus. Able to absorb all matter towards him, Terminus keeps getting larger and larger like a giant red boil of doom!
