Dr. Terminal tries to eat a city in Umbrella Academy: Hotel Oblivion No. 7

More Superheroes with Weird Powers. It Must Be a Weekday!
All that is known is that much as the umbrella is the motif of the titular heroes, a small bird is the logo of this lot. And much like the Umbrella Academy, each one of their powers is more bizarre than the last. Sure, there’s the one strong one, but others include a woman who turns into a murder of crows, and a deformed man who inflicts pain on others by injuring himself, like a living voodoo doll. It ends with their leader introducing himself as “Number One.” Isn’t that Spaceboy?

In the last issue of this volume, Way and Ba all but leave things off on a cliffhanger. The heroes are no longer in danger, but many questions remain unanswered. Just who are these newcomers? It’s likely they’re another group of children empowered by the same alien wrestling match (seriously) that empowered the Academy. Perhaps Sir Reginald Hargreeves formed one than one school? Or perhaps Mother formed a school of her own with less cruelty and more heart than her alien creator did?

This issue focuses mostly on the action than anything else. There is a lot of fighting and carnage, and as usual, plenty of weird ideas and characters. Mr. Calhoun from Texas makes another cameo, as if to remind readers that he’s still lurking somewhere in a subplot. There’s also a brief interlude with a grocery store clerk named Jennifer who may be witnessing the apocalypse, but is still on the clock and has to bag a customer’s stuff. Many of those who work retail will probably relate.
