Check out any rising star’s list and you’ll likely see Yara Shahidi’s name on it — for good reason. Shahidi is a charismatic actress who commands the screen. Why else would Disney choose her to star in her own series, the Blackish spin-off, Grownish.
Moreover, she isn’t just a television actress, in 2019, the young actress starred in The Sun Is also a Star, the romantic teen drama based on Nicola Yoon YA novel of the same name. Shahidi was the star of the film showing off her acting prowess.
One of the better scenes saw her face-to-face with the immensely talented, John Leguizamo where she shines. In fact, the Chicago Tribune’s Katie Walsh praised Shahidi’s performance.
"“Shahidi is undoubtedly a star… Shahidi’s few short scenes with immigration lawyer John Leguizamo are far more riveting.”"
It’ll be interesting to see a Shahidi in a superhero role. In fact, Storm actress, Alexandra Shipp thought it’d be cool if Shahidi teamed with her and Halle Berry in a Storm movie.
If cast in the role, like Tom Holland in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Shahidi is 19-years old. So, she can play a teen in the prime of her high school years who’s on the verge of adulthood.
