4. Quentin Lance
Oh Quentin Lance, how we miss you.
Star City’s resident detective, captain, mayor extraordinaire has been at the heart of the vast majority of Arrow‘s most important storylines – most of which revolved around his daughters and their relationships with Oliver Queen and, as a result, he suffered more heartache in 15 years than anyone should ever have to face in a lifetime.
The beloved character lost one daughter, only to discover that she was actually alive, until she was subsequently killed (for real, this time), only to be resurrected by his other daughter – who was then killed permanently (because plot convenience) as her sister embarked on a mission that would allow her to travel through time. And just when he had accepted the fate of his beloved deceased daughter, he was confronted by her evil doppelgänger from another Earth. Yeah, what can we say, Arrow‘s complicated.
Quentin’s constant heartbreak saw him become one of the show’s most resilient characters, as he faced (and subsequently overcame) a number of major obstacles, including grief, alcoholism and his feelings of resentment for Oliver Queen. In doing so, he learned new things about himself and ended up becoming one of Team Arrow’s most reliable allies.
Quentin may not have been gone that long, but his death in Season 6 marked the end of another era for Arrow and, quite frankly, the show hasn’t been the same since. Paul Blackthorne was nothing short of phenomenal in the father figure role and, with the show about to bid us farewell, it’s only fair that the writers figure out some way to incorporate the former SCPD Captain one more time.
