Why this show will work
Butcher in The Boys comics wasn’t one for speeches. He did have a way of keeping his team together. The way it’s shown in the trailer was more relatable to the masses. Butcher is a lot gruffer in the comics. He seems softer here. Softer doesn’t mean he’s not tough. We see him shooting people, cutting off a head with lasers coming from a baby’s eyes, and flat out beating people down. It’s smart that they’ve toned down how The Boys fight. Yes, this is toned down. It may be too much for viewers. Although, as we’ve seen in the trailers, The Boys is still going to be incredibly violent and gruesome.
The Boys isn’t for everyone, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give it a shot. The previews can only give you so much of the show.
The story from the comic has a deeper storyline about friendship, love, and, more importantly, finding people when you need them. Hopefully we’ll get to see the relationship between Starlight and Hughie. Both had an incredibly tragic beginning and end up finding each other when they both started to hate their jobs and the lives they chose. Something everyone can relate to.
With Seth Rogan and the creators of Supernatural involved in this, there’s no way this show should be bad.
The Boys premiers July 26 on Amazon Prime Video. Stay tuned at Bam Smack Pow for reviews and news about the show as they develop.
