Kamala leads the team against the Disir in Champions No. 6

He Has the Power!
Like Dusk and Hummingbird, Power Man has been around. Debuting during another crossover — Shadowland — in 2009, Victor Alvarez pays homage to Marvel’s greatest buddy team. His powers and motif are inspired by Luke Cage, but he’s personally been trained by Iron Fist. He can biologically absorb the souls and memories of those around them as “chi” energy to boost his strength, among other feats. He’s found himself on incarnations of Avengers, usually written by Al Ewing (such as Mighty Avengers or New Avengers).

It initially seems like Brun has the edge on Power Man; he’s strong but reckless, and quick to anger. But it quickly becomes obvious that the brash street hero has the number of the ancient Norse warriors. They’re literally composed of the sort of ancient, historic energy which powers his “chi.” Faster than anyone can say, “Hank Pym,” Victor assumes giant size and rallies the rest of the Champions to victory. It may be a victory more by luck than by pluck, but it’s a victory nonetheless!

Snowguard cautions Victor that their triumph was almost by accident, and his recklessness might one day get him or them killed. But to Victor, who always had a chip on his shoulder, it’s hard to argue with success. Considering he’s been on Avengers teams arguably as long as Kamala, Nova, or Miles have, Alvarez could be an unsung “MVP” of the team! Aracely, whose powers involve near subconscious reading of minds, is quickly fascinated by Viv, whose android mind is immune. Could this become a “ship?”
