Marvel’s The Eternals adds Salma Hayek Pinault to its cast
Chloé Zhao’s Marvel film, The Eternals, is growing slowly but surely by adding a high-profile actress.
As we all away the announcement about some other big name stars expected to join Chloé Zhao’s The Eternals, Zhao and company made another splash. No, it’s not Keanu Reeves. As the headline stated, per The Wrap, Salma Hayek will join Richard Madden in The Eternals:
"“Oscar-nominated actress Salma Hayek Pinault is being eyed to star opposite Richard Madden and Kumail Nanjiani in Marvel’s “The Eternals.”"
Don’t mistake this casting news as an ancillary addition. Hayek Pinault is one of the most recognizable Latina actresses in Hollywood. She’s been around Hollywood for decades; starring in classic films like Desperado and Frieda. And who can forget her iconic scene in From Dusk Till Dawn?
Most recently, Hayek Pinault starred in The Hitman’s Bodyguard and Beatriz at Dinner, The Humming Bird Project. While also lending her voice in films, Puss in Boots and Sausage Party.
Which one of The Eternals is she?
The Eternals are celestial beings who roamed the earth for centuries. Over their lifetime, they’ve made their mark on humanity, some more than others. Zhao’s film will focus on arguably the most powerful of The Eternals, Sersi.
There aren’t any details surrounding who she’ll play. But, no one expects Hayek Pinault to take on the role of a leading lady. Some rumors point to Angelina Jolie whose rumored to be on board as the lead actress.
Instead, there’s a chance she could play, Thena, a character whose name appeared on the casting breakdown:
"“Thena is the daughter of Zuras and Cybele. Her story is primarily depicted in the Babylonian era where she faced off against the Deviant, Kro.”"
This will mark the first time Hayek Pinault starred in comic book movie. Hayek Pinault’s casting news only adds to surmounting anticipation for The Eternals.
