13. Phil Coulson – Connecticut

Connecticut is one of the six states that make up New England and was one of the first five states to join the union at fifth in 1788. It also has a lot of firsts to their credit. It’s home to the first nuclear submarine (USS Nautilus); the first telephone book was issued in New Haven, Connecticut; and the first frisbee was also made here (apparently it was a tin pie plate).

Connecticut is known as the Constitution State and also the Nutmeg State. Connecticut is also the birthplace of a few well-known people like author Mark Twain, Charles Goodyear (you may recognize his last name), and pop star John Mayer.

Phil Coulson is one of the more unassuming people in the MCU, but he has a ton of skill. We’ve seen him take on Loki in The Avengers and catch him off guard. Something that’s not easily done.

Connecting the first’s of Connecticut, Coulson’s the first agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. we meet in the MCU in Iron Man – even before Nick Fury.  He was also the first MCU character to transition from film to the silver screen in ABC’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. It may be easy to underestimate Phil Coulson, but this could cost you dearly. Just like underestimating Connecticut may cost you a good time in a state rich of American history.
