16. Mantis – Oregon
For many, February 14 is Valentine’s Day. For the people of Oregon, it’s their state’s birthday. On February 14, 1859 Oregon became the 33rd state to join the Union, which is appropriate considering one of the city’s nicknames The City of Roses.
In 1889, the Portland Rose Society planted 20 miles of roses. In 1905 Mayor Harry Lane suggested that there be a festival dedicated to roses and in 1907, Portland held its first Rose Festival. Keeping with the theme of nature in Oregon, Portland has perfect places for kayaking, hiking, and windsurfing. And when you’re done, you can drive back into town for some nice wine.
Portland, Oregon is known as being a very liberal and “hippy” place in the country. With all the flowers, nature, and vegan lifestyle, it’s not shocking. This would be the perfect landing spot for Mantis.
She could be around people who wouldn’t judge her for how she looks or acts. Mantis would enjoy an environment where the emotions she felt are happier than she’s used to. She would visit Portland and never want to leave. It would also be a relief after being around so much violence over the last few years. Can you imagine her reaction if she was in the arena when Damian Lillard hit a big shot? The happiness from the Rose Garden may be something she never forgets.
