32. Peggy Carter – New Hampshire
New Hampshire has its fair share of firsts like. For example, New Hampshire was the first to have a free library in America. However, there’s another first people should know about.
A woman by the name of Marilla Ricker was the first woman to attempt to vote in New Hampshire. After being denied Ricker wrote, “No honest man doing a legitimate business need fear a woman’s vote. But some men scare easily.” Since she was born in New Hampshire, it felt important to bring her up since she can be considered the first woman in politics.
Peggy Carter could be considered the first woman of Marvel. She was the first woman (timeline wise) to put her life on the line during a superhero battle in the MCU in Captain America: the First Avenger – despite not having any superpowers.
In a time when women weren’t looked at as fighters, Peggy Carter raised the bar. The motto on the back of New Hampshire License plates say, “Live Free or Die.” Something Peggy Carter absolutely believes in. You can tell by the way she handled business. She was the first one to step up if things got thick. Also, Peggy believing in Steve Rogers helped him being the hero he became.
