43. Black Panther – Maryland
Maryland is rich with history and a ton of firsts. So let’s get right into it.
First off, some of the most prominent people in African-American and black history figures were born in Maryland. Harriet Tubman know for her role in the Underground Railroad and the first African-American Supreme Court justice Thurgood Marshall were both born in Maryland.
The first dental school and the United States Naval Academy were both started in Maryland as well and it’s also home to black colleges like Bowie State University, Coppin State University, and Morgan State University. With a state so rich in African-American history, T’Challa seemed like the easy choice to represent the state.
The king of Wakanda is one of the most honorable people in the MCU, a fact highlighted in Black Panther.
He breaks the cycle that could have eventually eaten Wakanda from the inside by making it a point to not be reclusive as opening his doors to the world meant that he could help more people. Maryland is known for being populated heavily by African-American people and there is no hero (and leader) which better represents the great state of Maryland.
