Dreams Come True
While the Furies reinforce their troops, their mentor, Granny Goodness, decides to take Darkseid down on her own. She’s suffered through his chauvinism for decades, and it only takes one additional move by Darkseid to turn Granny against him.
After Willik was executed by the Female Furies in the previous issue of the series, Granny was sure she would finally have a seat at the big boys’ table. She was wrong – instead the role was given to another council member’s nephew because he was looking for a job. This is the last straw for Granny who deploys every possible method to vanquish Darkseid, including creating a new team of Furies to do her bidding. Darkseid escapes, but so does Granny, and she has the free reign to live her life again.
The same goes for the Furies. The book ends with them standing tall in front of the women of Apokolips as the men run for cover. Lashina even says that aside from Aurelie, everyone got what they wanted. Barda is on Earth with Scott Free, and the Furies are now the revered heroes they always should have been, ready to battle Darkseid if he returns. This is the kind of aspirational ending this series needed – a light at the end of the dark tunnel that these characters have been travelling for far too long.
