Is Organized Crime in New Orleans Run by 1980s Background Dancers?

There is one awkward moment where Rogue’s powers go haywire after Gambit is blasted in the back by Candra. It’s a moment that makes sense, showing that Rogue’s control falters when she’s scared and she has to focus. Yet in practice, the end result is a one page interlude which ends exactly as one would expect, where the climatic final battle literally stops dead in its tracks for. Perhaps there was a better way to tie in the subplot from the Mojoworld arc, but this wasn’t it.

Rogue and Bella Donna clear house, and Remy does very well considering he has a gaping wound in his torso that’s literally picked for days. When Remy’s father (whose name is Jean-Luc because of course it is) turns up to lend his bo-staff to the fight, the tide begins to turn. Or maybe it has something to do with Rogue’s strategy of punching Candra in the head often. One explosive floor later, and both guilds have been wiped out, with the immortal Candra beaten once again.

Remy then announced before whatever guild members are still conscious that, essentially, duality and nuance and the spices of life. He can be both a hero and a thief, as well as a husband and an adventurer. Among the various head bands, trench coats and mohawks of the guild, Remy has ruled the roost for a reason. He embraces all sides of himself and refuses to be limited by stereotypes or narrow expectations. It’s a defining speech for the character, who proudly exists amid shades of grey.
