The ideal mix of having a strong resemblance to the comics as well as being capable of playing the character, Luke Evans has a menacing charm to him that isn’t rivaled by many. He’s able to play the savage aristocrat that Kraven’s personality requires while also being capable of turning around ready to destroy his enemies in the very next scene.
Playing the villain comes easy to him from his time playing Owen Shaw in The Fast and The Furious 6-8 along with roles like Dracula in Dracula Untold. It’s simply never been difficult for Evans to portray the bad guy.
The role that sells his claim is that of Gaston from Beauty and the Beast. Evans has a built-in charm that shines through in every role, but it’s a diabolical charm that is most evident in the Disney film.
Kraven the Hunter is a character destined to have a strong presence on the screen and while Luke Evans may not be the most well-known actor in the world, Kraven is also not the most well-known character. What Evans would bring to the role is something quite unique and that is what it needs to satisfy the most hardcore comic purist and also introduce the casual audience to possibly Spider-Man’s most dangerous adversary yet.
