Agents of SHIELD: Chloe Bennet, Jeff Ward discuss Quake’s legacy

In gearing up for the Season 6 finale of Agents of SHIELD, stars Chloe Bennet and Jeff Ward look back at Quake impact on the show and the development she’s had over the years.

In reflecting upon the past six seasons of ABC’s long-running Marvel drama Agents of SHIELD, there’s no denying Chloe Bennet’s character has undergone the biggest transformation thus far in the show’s first six seasons.

When fans first met Daisy Johnson, she was an untrustworthy hacker going then known as Skye; an outsider typically relegated to the confines of a van, working her magic behind the comfort of her computer. However, Marvel had grander plans in place for the character.

In time, Skye would ditch the hacker vans and comfort of hiding behind her screen as she transformed into the superhero Daisy “Quake” Johnson. With her newfound abilities came a new err of confidence, a larger role in SHIELD and it didn’t take long for Quake to become one of the show’s most beloved characters. However, if you had told Bennet the introverted hacker she initially signed on to play would transform into a kick*ss hero, she may have reconsidered the role.

"“She kind of turned into the anthesis of who she was at the beginning of the show. I auditioned to play a hacker in a van and they were like, ‘Just kidding, you’re going to be this superhero and do these stunts’ and I don’t know that I would have auditioned for that [laughs], but here I am,” Bennet jokingly admitted in reflecting upon the character’s extreme growth on the show during an interview at San Diego Comic-Con with members of the media."

While Bennet’s character arc over the years may have been unexpected, there is no denying the impact she has had on the show or the role she’s played in the success of the series – a sentiment not lost on her co-stars.

"“A lot of people wouldn’t have been able to handle that transition, a lot of actors specifically. For Chloe to, kind of, taken on and shouldered so much of the show – including physically with the crazy amount of stunts that she’s done – I give a lot of credit to Chloe. “I think a lot of the reason the show is as successful and people gravitated toward it as much as they do is because of Chloe,” co-star Jeff Ward championed of Bennet’s impact on the show."
