If Spider-Man scored big with PlayStation, then surely Hulk can do it, too. Here are the steps to make that happen.

Nearly a year ago, PlayStation 4 saw the release of Marvel’s Spider–Man, which has received positive reviews from critics. Chris Carter of Destructoid called it one of the best superhero games ever made. The game managed to receive praise for its strong narrative, gameplay and game mechanics. Another Marvel character who has been getting a lot more love in the comics and in the films is the Hulk.

Although, his video game history has been a mixed bag. In fact, the last game to be released that featured a standalone adventure with the character was The Incredible Hulk, a 2008 movie tie-in game that was developed by Edge of Reality and published by Sega.

Back in 2015, it was reported by Polygon that Marvel was in partnership with Telltale Games to develop video games based on Marvel properties. At the time, they had already developed properties such as The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones and Mindcraft. The hope was to have the fledgling, yet successful indie video game developer/publisher produce story-driven and dynamic gameplay on major AAA game titles.

After the first season of WB Games’ Batman: The Telltale Series received mixed to positive reviews from critics (via Metacritic), many of whom praised Troy Baker’s performance as Batman, many were waiting for the next best thing, which came with Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series being released on platforms such as the PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch  in the spring of 2017.

However, what followed ahead was a restructuring of the company. It turned out that as far as TellTale Games rose to prominence in a span of over a decade, the company began to crumble under itself with recurring bugs and other technical problems. In addition, there was also a lack of quality control (i.e. ongoing issues in the gaming engine post-2016) deficits with gaming licenses and a decline in sales. As previously outlined by USGamer, in a span of about four years; 2014-2017, Telltale Games became the Lionsgate of the video game industry in a “crunch time” factory-like business model. The company ultimately closed in the fall of 2018.

Following the release of Spider–Man PS4 with Insomniac Games, an article from FANDOM suggested that the game developer behind the classic franchise Spyro the Dragon and Ratchet and Clank expressed a positive relationship in collaborating with Marvel and are open to developing more licensed game titles using Marvel’s library. Even one business and finance editorial  (we’ll get to later) shared an opinion on which adaptation from one of the Big Two Insomniac should make. In this article, we’ll break down the different factors in what could make a great Hulk game and whether or not we are ready for one.
