Warner Bros. has now moved their focus to Batgirl as their next female-led superhero movie and these five directors should be in the running for the job.

Wonder Woman 1984 and Birds of Prey have finished filming and are set to release next year. Heroic Hollywood has reported that Warner Bros. is now shifting their focus to finding a director for the Batgirl movie.

Previously, Joss Whedon was set to direct and write Batgirl but exited early last year citing “story issues”. Specifically, Whedon did not have a story in mind for the iconic DC Universe character.

There has not been any other information regarding the Batgirl movie. It is assumed that Barbara Gordon will play the titular character, but the filmmakers could easily go with Cassandra Cain or Stephanie Brown as Batgirl, with Gordon playing the role of Oracle. Matt Reeves’ The Batman could affect the Batgirl movie with a possible cameo from her.

The point is that Batgirl could go in any direction at this point in time. What is important and what may be telling is the director that Warner Bros. hires for the job.

It is not a requirement, but hiring a female director would be the best move for Warner Bros. Wonder Woman was a big success, and fans were in an uproar after seeing how the Amazons were portrayed in Justice League compared to Wonder Woman. A female perspective is something Warner Bros. should value from their filmmakers and it is a direction that Marvel is trending towards, especially in their Phase Four slate.

Here are five directors Warner Bros. should consider to helm Batgirl.
