1. Karyn Kusama

Karyn Kusama is a name everyone should know. She got her start with Girlfight starring Michelle Rodriguez and her best movie, The Invitation, is a fantastic horror-thriller. She has also directed many other female-led movies in Aeon Flux, Jennifer’s Body and just recently Destroyer.

Kusama is a perfect choice for a female-led superhero movie, and Warner Bros. should be the first to hire her for Batgirl. Girlfight and Aeon Flux show her great eye for action and, despite the studio changes at Paramount that led to Kusama’s vision of Aeon Flux being lost, the movie is still visually interesting with fun action scenes. The Invitation and Destroyer shows Kusama’s eye for a great thriller.

All of this combined could be a great Batgirl movie. Batgirl is a good detective and crime fighter in her own right, and Kusama is the visionary that could bring that to the world. Her outspokenness on women in Hollywood is a blessing and a curse. Studios may be hesitant to hire her, and the independent film industry is thriving giving Kusama and outlet to make the kinds of movies that she wants to make. However, if there is an even amount of studio input combined with Kusama’s vision, then Batgirl could be a very successful property for Warner Bros.
