Rumor: Agent Carter to appear in Agents of SHIELD’s final season
According to a new rumor, Agents of SHIELD’s final season will feature a very special appearance from the founder of SHIELD herself Peggy Carter.
An era of television will come to an end next year when Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD returns for its final season. The long-running series has been a staple of ABC for the past six years and extended the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe by focusing on the exploits of Agent Coulson and his newly-assembled team of agents as the world around them got progressively stranger.
However, before those agents of SHIELD bid us farewell, it sounds like they might be getting a special visit from the organization’s most revolutionary director – and no, we’re not talking about Nick Fury.
According to a report by Fandomwire, Hayley Atwell is set to appear as Agent Peggy Carter – the founder and original director of SHIELD. As this has yet to be confirmed by the powers-that-be at Marvel or ABC, it’s definitely worth taking it with a pinch of salt.
That being said, it would be a fitting tribute to both the show and SHIELD itself to feature the woman who started it all – not-to-mention a tribute to the character herself.

Atwell made her first MCU appearance as Peggy in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger, before appearing in follow-up one-shot Marvel’s Agent Carter.
She would subsequently appear (in reduced roles) in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age Of Ultron, Ant-Man, and Avengers: Endgame.
She also headlined her own TV series, Marvel’s Agent Carter, which ran from 2015 until its unjust cancellation at the hands of ABC the following year, who reportedly wanted to feature the esteemed actress in something more mainstream. A fantastic tale of espionage in the 1940s, it deserved so much better.
The actress is also no stranger to Agents of SHIELD, as she has appeared as Peggy in two episodes of the series already. The question is: Will she return one more time to bid farewell to Coulson’s agents? Time (travel) will probably tell.
