According to a new rumor, Disney Plus’ Loki series may connect to Thor: Love and Thunder. But is joining the two stories really a good idea?

Loki has been one of the most popular characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since his first appearance. In fact, he may be one of the only characters who rivals Tony Stark in terms of popularity. It doesn’t even matter that he’s a villain (even though Loki doesn’t think he is). He’s entertaining and has continued to show that he’s more than just a trickster.

The character has also had plenty of emotional moments. Whether it was yelling at Odin after finding out that he was a frost giant, or mourning his mother’s death, Loki showed viewers that he wasn’t your typical antagonist. And he may be the reason why Marvel Studios has gone with more relatable antagonists than the standard offender.

Tom Hiddleston has been so good at this role that Loki was given his own show on the Disney Plus streaming service. His show (aptly titled Loki) will make its debut in the Spring of 2021.

The series comes out before the release of Thor’s fourth film Thor: Love and Thunder – the second Thor project by Taika Waititi. Loki has been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since the very first Thor project, and because of this, rumors have started to circulate that Loki will connect to Thor: Love and Thunder with Fandomwire suggesting that it might indeed happen.

However, is this something that should actually happen? Absolutely.

Why this works

The idea of a TV show influencing the MCU films isn’t unheard of. In fact, during Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. there were quite a few moments that linked the show to the films. For example, we knew how The Avengers got information on Baron Strucker’s Hydra base because it happened in the ABC TV series. This was also a nice way of including fans of the show – who were undoubtedly happy that they knew something that people who didn’t watch the show were unaware of.

Furthermore, this approach would have allowed Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to acquire some new viewers, as film fans would go back to see how it all came together. Of course, the same thing is going to happen with Loki – and then some.

Loki is more popular than any one of the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. That show may be good – but it’s not the God of Mischief good.

Loki’s show may be the reason that some people sign up for the streaming service in general. And if the rumors are true, you can bet that Loki‘s ties to Thor: Love and Thunder will mean even more subscribers for the Disney Plus streaming service.

More from Disney Plus

Then, imagine how people would react if season 1 of Loki were to end with a cliffhanger that leads directly into Thor: Love and Thunder?

This would lead to even more anticipation for Thor’s upcoming movie. On the other hand, anyone who hadn’t seen the show would now be forced to watch it in order to see what they missed.

Of course, this could end up backfiring. People are becoming increasingly annoyed with having to get more streaming platforms every year. There are also people who won’t care enough about what happened before Thor: Love and Thunder to go back and watch the show.

However, the good vastly outweighs the bad. Loki is a well-liked character, and in the past, fans who didn’t like the Thor movies still showed up because Loki was in them. If the rumors are true, then finding out that Loki bridges the gap going into Thor: Love and Thunder will undoubtedly bring in viewers. Keep your eyes locked here to find out more as it develops.
