Throwback Thursday: Does the Blade trilogy still hold up?
By Mark Lynch
Does it hold up?
If you’re going to watch any of the Blade movies expecting them to be as good as the recent comic book films, you’ll be disappointed. First off, they aren’t like the MCU films. They’re not for all ages, and the CGI is dated. However, while dark, all of them add a good amount of levity. The characters don’t take themselves too seriously, and it makes them fun. One character in particular (that hasn’t been mentioned much in this discussion) is Blade’s mentor, Abraham Whistler. He was extraordinary. He was just as grim as Blade, but added some needed sarcasm and cynicism when Snipes seemed too angry. The action was also grittier. They are the one thing that may be better than the recent movies. It’s more hard-hitting than what we’ve seen.
The Blade trilogy is definitely something every comic book movie collector should own. The first two installments are still fantastic movies years later. The plots still work, and the supporting cast are everything you’d want them to be. Blade Trinity falls under the category of good/bad movies. If you’re looking for something to laugh at and be entertained, it’s the perfect flick for you. The plot doesn’t really matter, and you’ll get your fill of jokes and action.
