New images of Karl Urban and the rest of the cast from behind the scenes of The Boys season 2 shows there will be blood.

The nigh inevitable second season of Amazon’s gritty, violent and dramatic subversion of superheroes, The Boys, is in the middle of filming, and the first images from the set were posted to Twitter and Instagram.

Executive producer Eric Kripke posted the first candid shot of the cast to his personal Twitter account. In the photo are Jack Quaid who plays Wee Hughie, Tomer Capon (Frenchie), Kimiko (and Suicide Squad) actress Karen Fukuhara, and Laz Alonso, also known as Mother’s Milk. Three of them are stained in fake blood, or at least show drops of the corn-syrupy substance.

Producer Kripke stands in the middle of the group, as they all give the bird to the camera. In the caption, Kripke wrote it’s a “small token” to fans of the show — who might also enjoy the comic it’s based on.

Calling it the “World’s first pic of #Season2,” he also wrote, “As you can see, we’re up to our old tricks.” See the full post and pic below:

Kripke promised that the show would not only go deeper but get “more intense, more insane, more wrenching.” “It’s my one and only goal to make Season 2 even better than Season 1,” he said.

Missing from the pic is star Karl Urban. That’s because the Australian took his own picture and shared it on his official Instagram. In the second pic of season 2, Urban takes a break from shooting to take a selfie in the glaring sun of his face stained in blood. The caption reads “Totally Butcherd that one!” — a reference to his character, Billy Butcher.

Urban continues the “Up to our old tricks” refrain too. Check out his post:

Debuting its full first season this month, The Boys is already a hit for Amazon and was assured a second season based on its success. It surpassed “predictions for viewing,” according to studio head Jennifer Salke, to within two weeks become one of the most-watched shows offered by the streaming service.
