The man before Moon Knight

Marc Spector’s past isn’t directly impacted by one event. Unlike Bruce, he wasn’t some rich kid groomed as the heir of an empire. There’s a different story to the man before he became the hero.

As a matter of fact, part of his history deals with the Holocaust, more specifically his disappointment in his father for not fighting back against those who oppressed their people.

Spector ran away and lived on his own. He’d eventually become a heavyweight boxer before joining the U.S. Marines, which led to a career in the CIA. While with the CIA, Spector reunited with his brother, Randall who turned out to be a corrupt agent.

After Spector’s girlfriend (at the time) discovered what Randall was up to, he brutally murdered her. Spector took it upon himself to avenge her death. His brother survived, unbeknownst to Spector, eventfully becoming a sadistic villain with a complex story of his own.

Meanwhile, Spector life’s spiraled into a black hole of moral corruption, which led him to the life of a global mercenary. During this time, he fell into the company of a ruthless murderer, Raoul Bushman. After Bushman murdered an archaeologist and slaughtered villagers, Spector stood against him.

Spector also met his Alfred (there’s that blasted Batman connect), Frenchie, who’d become one of his moral compasses. The other was Marlene, the daughter of the archaeologist Bushman killed.

Bushman knocked Spector out and left him for dead in the desert. Spector regained consciousness and made his way to Pharaoh Seti III’s tomb. There he met with Marlene and the rest of her father’s team. Unable to help him, Marlene stayed by his side until his death.

That’s when the legend was born. Spector rose from the dead by the powers of the Egyptian god Khonshu. With his enhanced abilities, Spector became the shadow protector of New York. The gifts from Khonshu also brought a curse, as Spector was burdened with multiple personalities.
