Wolverine and the 25 greatest X-Men characters of all-time
By Mark Lynch
13. Beast (Hank McCoy)
Henry “Hank” McCoy is another one of the original five X-Men. At the time, he could have been considered the team’s muscle. However, despite the name Beast, Hank McCoy would rather solve things with words or be in his lab than fight. His opponents soon realize that he’s not to be taken lightly, though, a his strength and incredible agility make him a challenge for anyone.
Beast wasn’t always blue and hairy. After using an experimental serum, Beast grew grey fur, cat-like teeth, and pointy ears. He was already insecure about his hands and feet, this transformation made Hank’s life even harder. Not only does he sometimes scare people, he’s developed more insecurities about his looks. That insecurity will help make him popular.
No one wants to feel like an outcast. Hank’s always been ridiculed for his appearance. Sometimes, it leads to him making things worse despite trying to help. Like creating a serum that would destroy the mutant gene. He means well, but it can end up in the hands of mutant hating groups. A lot of us have been there.
Beast is a kind-hearted person. His Age of Apocalypse counterpart is not. Dark Beast is one of the more despicable characters in Marvel Comics. Starting off with hero Beast and turning him into a villain could be a different and new twist that viewers would love.
