9. Mystique

We’ve had two different versions of Mystique in the movies. The most recent was Jennifer Lawrence. She portrayed a Raven Darkholme who was a hero. Someone who fought for mutant rights with the X-Men.

The first (and a personal favorite) was played by Rebecca Romijn, a iteration of the character who fought for mutant rights in a more extreme way. We’ve seen this version in the comic books and cartoons. The latter of the two is more revered than the former. While Mystique has fought with the X-Men on more than a few occasions, there’s usually an ulterior motive. It could be to gain information, to kill someone, or two help her adopted daughter Rogue.

Mystique is one of the premier X-Men villains. She’s used her shape-shifting powers to stir the pot with the X-Men, send Wolverine to Hell (literally), and help Sabretooth become an underground crime lord. She should always be an antagonist in some way. We haven’t seen her be the main offender, but it’s well within her capabilities as she once led the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.

It would be a nice change of pace to see her as the evil leader of a team. Especially since there aren’t a lot of women playing the lead antagonist in a lot of comic book movies.
