5. Professor Xavier

Professor Charles Xavier is the reason the X-Men exist. Without him, there wouldn’t be a list. Xavier has gone through a couple of changes over the years. First, he was the father figure. Guiding young mutants and molding them into adults and heroes. He’s also been the terrible leader who’s done horrible things in the name of mutant kind. Things even Magneto wouldn’t agree with.

For example, Xavier never told Cyclops that he had a younger brother named Gabriel (Vulcan), that  his team died on Krakoa, or how he’s one of the reasons Wolverine doesn’t remember his past. This added more depth to Xavier’s character. There’s no doubt that Charles Xavier has been a hero. Nonetheless, the things we’ve found out about him over the last decade or so have been atrocious.

Xavier is one of the few characters that has had flawless performances from actors. Patrick Stewart was the first to take the helm. It was like he was born to play that role. He even looked the part. Next up was James McAvoy. He was just as good as Xavier. He actually helped breathe new life into the franchise with X-Men: First Class. Xavier has been a crucial part of the X-Men story and continues to be so in the Powers or X and House of X series.
