23. Hope Summers

Hope Summers was the first mutant birth since Wanda Maximoff said, “No more mutants.” Because of this, she was sought after by the X-Men, Mr. Sinister, and the mutant hate group The Purifiers. After she escaped with Cable to the future, she grew up into her teenage years being taught how to fight and survive.

When they returned to the present, Hope and Cable were attacked. Good thing she was almost as tough as her adopted father Cable. At the end of Second Coming (her return to the present), Hope was the one who destroyed Bastion and saved the day.

Hope Summers is on a short list of people who don’t get enough credit. First, she’s tougher than a lot of people. Even at a young age. Considering that she grew up in a world where every day was a fight for survival, it isn’t shocking.

Second, she’s a born leader. She takes pride in being the one who goes into the battle first and taking the punishment so her teammates don’t have to. We saw some of this in Matt Rosenberg’s Uncanny X-Men.

Hope was mentioned briefly as Cable’s daughter in Deadpool 2. If the Deadpool franchise isn’t rebooted, they could bring Hope into the present. She’s one of the reasons that the mutants still exist in the comics. Hope will be one of the best X-Men when everything is said and done.
