21. X-23

Laura Kinney (X-23) started as just the clone of Wolverine. There was no real depth to her character when she joined the X-Men. We only knew that she was an incredible fighter, had a bad attitude, and went through the same tortures as Wolverine and then some. During New X-Men and after the X-Men crossover event Second Coming, she became a more layered character. It also helped that Logan told her to find out what she wanted to do with her life.

X-23 hasn’t been around long. This made it difficult to rank her higher than some of the old school X-Men. However, she does make the list for a couple of reasons.

First, there’s Logan. Her part in that movie showed this and she didn’t speak much, Laura showed that she was more than just a weapon. Second, in Matt Rosenberg’s run of Uncanny X-Men, he gave her a sense of humor. Not just in the “I’ll gut you like a fish” sort of way. When she makes her appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she’ll be taken to a new level in the comics and on the screen. Hopefully they give her a show instead of a movie which wouldl give her time to develop as a character.
