Wolverine and the 25 greatest X-Men characters of all-time
By Mark Lynch
19. Bishop
Lucas Bishop was born into a mutant detention camp. Like all mutants in that time period, he was branded with the letter M over his eye. This let everyone know he was a mutant. Eventually, Bishop grew up and ended up in the past. He hoped to prevent the hellish future he and other mutants were born into. Sometimes, he did things that helped. A couple of times, he hunted his and attacked his friends.
First, he joined Iron Man’s pro Superhuman Registration team (Marvel Civil War). He ended up fighting Cyclops, Iceman, Angel, and Beast while he was helping the Sentinel Squad O*N*E. During and after Messiah Complex, Bishop spent years hunting Hope and Cable. He felt that killing Hope Summers would help stop his future from coming to fruition. Bishop became a villain and a vile one at that. Now, he’s back with the X-Men fighting for the dream of coexistence.
One thing you can say about Bishop is that he’s a phenomenal character. He always seems to be on the front line when things get bad – usually with a gun and an energy blast. When he was chasing Hope and Cable, he was a top three villain. He was willing to destroy people and commit genocide if it meant that his future wouldn’t happen. Bishop has the ability to be both a hero and a villain. A quality that’s not found in many characters.
