The Monitor will appear in The Flash’s season 6 premiere
The Crisis may not arrive until December, but that won’t stop The Monitor from showing up in the season premiere of The Flash.
The CW’s Arrowverse has seen it all over the past few years, but there’s a strong possibility that this year will be its most game-changing yet. Not only will Batwoman swoop in with her brand new TV series, the Emerald Archer will depart as Arrow comes to an end. However, even those key events could end up being overshadowed by the huge five-part crossover Crisis On Infinite Earths.
The impending arrival of the Crisis has been a long-running narrative on The Flash, with a futuristic newspaper article warning the team of its effects long before it ever became a reality. But the fact of the matter is that, this year, it’s going to become a reality.
However, it appears that we won’t have to wait until the crossover begins to get our first tease of the Crisis on The Flash as, according to the Scarlet Speedster himself, Grant Gustin, the season 6 premiere will feature an appearance from the person, or entity, who foreshadowed the whole thing all along: The Monitor.
Speaking to Comicbook.com, Gustin revealed:
"“I can’t spoil too too much because I haven’t read it yet… I’ve been teased a lot from our guys what it’s going to be. The Monitor shows up at the end of our first episode and says the universe is in jeopardy and in order to save the universe, Barry Allen has to die. And Barry Allen doesn’t know about this deal Oliver made with the Monitor, either, so someone’s gonna die.”"
The ironic thing about all of this is that, in spite of the Crisis’ importance to The Flash, this is the first time that The Monitor will show up on a non-crossover-themed episode of the show.
The celestial being debuted on last season’s Elseworlds crossover and revealed that he was testing different earths in the multiverse in a bid to save it from destruction.

Following a deal he made with Oliver Queen, he resurfaced in the Arrow finale to cash in, and took the Emerald Archer with him to save the multiverse.
He also appeared in the season finale of Supergirl to both introduce the villainous twin brother of J’onn J’onzz and presumably resurrect Lex Luthor, before cameoing in the Legends of Tomorrow finale – where he ate popcorn and silently judged the Legends.
With him now making his presence felt upon Central City, the question is: Does Barry Allen still have to die, or is he just telling Barry that to preserve the timeline? And if Oliver agreed to swap places with the Scarlet Speedster, does that mean he is destined to die instead? Time will tell.
