Riverdale: Who’s better off heading into season 4, and who isn’t? – Part 2
As we near the end of summer, let’s see how five more of our favorite Riverdale characters will be fairing at the start of Season 4, as compared to last “Labor Day” (3×01).
Note: This is the second of two articles. See part one to check in with five other major characters.
The end of Riverdale‘s season three finale was quite a doozy, resolving some long-standings arcs but also introducing many others as cliffhangers. And, no, I’m just talking about that flash-forward.
Some of our favorite (and not-so-favorite) characters have hit rock bottom, others are reaping the benefits and still others are simply content. Of course, nothing stays the same for long, especially on Riverdale, so let’s to check in to see where five more major characters stand now.
Will they in a better place at the start of season 4 than they were at the start of season three? (They can’t be in that much of a better “place” since they’re still in Riverdale, but you get it.)
Better off: Jughead
Jughead is primarily better off now than he was in the premiere because he was finally able to get closure with his mom, Gladys. It certainly didn’t go down the way he had anticipated or hoped, but it did happen. And, even though she left Riverdale, the door is hopefully now open to them having some sort of relationship going forward.
Furthermore, Jug will now be able to reconnect with his little sister, JB – when he’s not, you know, cracking murder cases with Betty. Or maybe she’ll join them their little detective squad. This is Riverdale, so who knows?
Worse off: Kevin
Just as Kevin had finally found happiness with Moose last season, it was brutally torn away from him. And then he joined a cult that made him feel happy again, and then the cult abandoned him. So, in summary, he’s really gonna need a minute.
Hopefully, his father will be able to help his son process and overcome his grief and depression, and it would be nice if Betty could reconnect with Kevin, too. Their friendship has been sorely missed.
Better off: FP
First, Sheriff Jones was finally able to put Hiram behind bars. Granted, Plan A was to put him six feet under the ground, so this may feel like a consolation prize. But it’s a win, nonetheless.
Second, his son with Alice is… alive! So, that’s also a win. Of course, meeting the adult son that you thought had died and that you didn’t even know had ever existed until recently is bound to be a bit awkward. But they should be able to move past it.
Better off and Worse off: Toni
Personally, Toni is doing pretty well at the moment. She escaped The Farm, helped lead a badass rescue mission to save the Core Four and reconciled with Cheryl. However, she definitely has a difficult road ahead of her once she realizes Cheryl is not in a good place.
Fortunately for Cheryl, Toni will be always be there for her and do absolutely everything in her power to help her. However, it surely won’t be easy for Toni to see her girlfriend in so much pain.
Better off: Hermione
In season three proved anything, it’s that Hermione is far from innocent – even if she’s not quite as bad as Hiram. Instead of working on her relationship with her daughter or using her position as mayor to help the town, she tried and failed to assassinate her husband just so she could get in on his criminal enterprise.
Whether Hermione does better this season remains to be seen, but she is definitely better off for the moment since Hiram is locked up, and she got away with attempted murder. But, does anybody really ever get away with anything in Riverdale?
