Margot Robbie and 10 superhero actors you didn’t know were soap stars
10. Emmett J. Scanlan
Emmett J. Scanlan recently made his imposing presence felt when he delivered an impeccable turn as DC Comics’ interstellar bounty hunter and anti-hero Lobo on the second season of Syfy’s Krypton. In fact, he had made such a good impression on producers that the network had commissioned a Lobo spin-off before the season had even premiered. Unfortunately, low ratings resulted in Krypton getting cancelled and Lobo being scrapped.
The Irish actor also appeared in the MCU’s 2014 offering Guardians Of The Galaxy in which he portrayed one of the riot guards.
That said, before he showed up in the world of comic book-adaptations, Scanlan was best known for playing Brendan Brady on Hollyoaks – one of Britain’s more-recent soaps (though it has been on the air since 1995) but one that has begun picking up more momentum than ever in the last decade.
The character was, in many ways, one of the greatest “bad boys” in British soap history as, following an imposing introduction, he evolved into a much-less antagonistic character. From his relationship with Steven “Ste” Hay to the pair’s domestic abuse storyline, Scanlan’s character continued to make headlines for the near-three years that he was a part of the show.
