Margot Robbie and 10 superhero actors you didn’t know were soap stars
6. Katie Cassidy
Arrow leading lady Katie Cassidy has spent the better part of the past decade impressing viewers as two versions of DC’s iconic Black Canary, Laurel Lance.
For the first four seasons of the show’s run, she portrayed the original Laurel – a kind-hearted lawyer with an inherent desire to help people who eventually went on to become the legendary DC hero. That is, until the character was senselessly killed off in a disgraced season full of forced melodrama that tanked the show’s momentum altogether.
However, after fan outcry, Cassidy returned as the villainous Earth-2 version, Black Siren – an equally compelling character who eventually found redemption as the Black Canary.
Aside from Arrow, the esteemed actress also portrayed the titular hero in 2014’s The Scribbler – thriller written by Daniel Schaffer and based on his own graphic novel of the same name.
However, before she donned the masks and utilised her Canary Cry, Cassidy appeared in numerous prime time soaps. First, she made a guest appearance in the short-lived Sex, Love and Secrets and, following her acclaimed run as the devious anti-hero Ruby on Supernatural, she went on to star in Beverly Hills spin-off Melrose Place – in which she played the ambitious publicist Ella Simms.
