11. “Emerald Archer” (Episode 12)

Arrow‘s 150th episode, “Emerald Archer” decided to switch things up with a unique format, as it utilised a fictional documentary (called “Emerald Archer”) to reflect on the history of vigilantes in Star City and, in doing so, reflected on all the show had accomplished.

The format was fun and different and this writer must admit, it was wonderful to look back and see new camera angles of old scenes. That said, the villain was thinly-written while also committing off-screen crimes that were never explained, and it was also never really explained why the documentary team were following the heroes everywhere (or how they got permission to do so).

10. “Level Two” (Episode 4)

While every episode in the beginning of the season held nothing back in terms of physical trauma, the thing that set “Level Two” apart from the rest was its focus on emotional trauma – something that paved the way for a number of strong character arcs.

The idea of Oliver being tortured by a corrupt doctor should have been exhausting, but it was executed rather well as it harkened back to The Arrow’s origins in a bid to highlight all he had been through – reminding us that there is always strong material in Oliver’s backstory no matter how many times the writers go to that well.

This was also reflected well in Felicity’s arc as she too was giving into the darkness in a bid to free him from prison while, on the other hand, Black Siren began moving towards the light in an attempt to stop her.
