Young Justice: Will Brion become the antagonist of Season 4?

The return of Young Justice had fans excited for what was to come for their favorite band of sidekicks. Introducing Prince Brion Markov added another layer to the Outsider group. But is he destined to become evil? Spoilers ahead.

Our subtitle of Young Justice Season 3 was Outsiders and foreshadowed the introduction to the superhero group of the same name. In the series’ lineup was Prince Brion Markov, the second-in-line to the throne. We also welcomed Princess Tara to the story where she served as a spy for Deathstroke.

However, the boy known as Geo-Force became a different person by the end of the story, as he killed his uncle despite the protests of everyone and took the crown of Markovia for himself.

His actions forced Tara and Violet to turn their backs on him, leaving him to rule the embattled country without the support of his allies.

With Brion’s personality and arc evolving, does this mean he’ll end up the antagonist of Season 4?

Becoming His Uncle’s Nephew

When the truth came out that Frederick DeLamb (a.k.a. Baron Bedlam) got involved in the monarch’s assassinations, the prince wanted his guardian punished. Well, he certainly got his wish by murdering the evil usurper.

However, to make the situation worse, his argument for killing Bedlam just didn’t sit well with his sister Tara or teammate and love interest Violet.

His friends were unable to talk him around or make him see that his actions were wrong, and thus, they left him to reign over his land alone.

The boy being in power might seem like the right move from his perspective, but to those who knew Bedlam, however, it’s beginning to look like he’s simply repeating the past and following in his uncle’s deadly footsteps.

Next Season’s Threat and Jace Returns

The final episode ‘Nevermore’ showed us new plot threads forming. One of those was the tease of the Legion of Superheroes and presumably Saturn Girl or Supergirl. We still have the Light loose and Lex Luthor starting his own group, Infinity, Inc to serve as the antagonists. They wouldn’t forget about him given the role he played and how his sister fits into the Outsiders.

More from DC Universe

Brion went from being a kid looking for guidance to a man who killed his main adversary because he was a scumbag. Because of the options the late queen’s sibling gave him, it’s safe to say the guy deserved to die. That said, heroes have a strict no-kill policy, and the kid did the unthinkable because he felt the enemy wasn’t worth giving over to the authorities.

Then, there’s Doctor Helga Jace. She betrayed the heirs and used Black Lightning to get information.

To forgive the doc, the young monarch will need to weigh the pros and cons. He would order his former teacher and mother-figure to be watched in order to ensure that she wouldn’t stab Markovia in the back again. Though, he would need to brand her as a traitor.

Gregor and Tara

The finale saw Brion’s relationship with siblings diminish. So, what happened? They didn’t agree with the senseless slaughter of their uncle.

Tara is a reformed ally of Slade Wilson after realizing what he was doing was wrong. Gregor got robbed of the throne which he inherited since he was the eldest child.

While Brion was relieved to have Terra back, being exiled from his own country became a punch in the gut. The blue blood kicked his twin out of their home in revenge.

How the strained relationship between the royal siblings is explored next season is unknown, but it’s likely that an explosion is coming.

With Gregor exiled, Tara now an Outsider, and Brion as King, there might be a battle between the trio which could only end up making the situation worse.

Will Brion Seek Forgiveness?

Brion, Conner, and Dick had different perspectives on how to handle Bedlam. The leaders were against killing DeLamb, but Markov argued his evil relative was the monster. His superiors reprimanded him, reminding him that heroes don’t kill.

If he wants an apology, the wayward ruler should be the one to apologize as no one wanted to turn against him. It’s understandable he felt stepped on, but his friends had faith in him.

Will Markov’s People Accept Their New King?

It may be hard for the people of Markov to accept their new king. We need to ask if they’ll rebel.  Who knows, but if we had to guess, they might have issues with the way Brion runs their country. After all, he might end up running it into the ground and create bigger problems.

Given how everything went down with Gregor and how DeLamb ruled through his nephew, the public may be hesitant to accept Brion as their king. They may stage a revolt to bring down the monarchy. If this happens, the royal will probably go to his former friends for help as he won’t be able to dig himself out of trouble.

The Markovian people may shy away from a metahuman king since making him angry is the last thing they should or would do. It’s also possible that they don’t know about Brion’s status as a meta, though this is unlikely given that the world knows about Geo-Force.

Conclusion

Given the possibility of where Brion’s arc finished last season, it’s hard to say yes or no to whether he will become the antagonist. He may be a minor villain, but a bigger group of baddies like The Light and Lex Luthor would likely fill the void.
