8. Stealing Cap’s Shield

When it was announced that Spider-Man would finally be joining the rest of the Marvel superheroes in the MCU, many fans were eager to get a glimpse of the hero. There was plenty of talking about who would get the part and what the suit would look like. But it wasn’t until the final trailer for Captain America: Civil War that we finally got a look at the wall-crawler. And what a look it was!

Just as it seemed that the trailer was ending and we were going to have to wait until the cinema to see Spider-Man, we saw Tony Stark shout, “underoos!” and we finally saw him appear. Webs appeared on Captain America’s shield and it was pulled out of his hand, then we see a blue and red-suited man flipping around before landing in classic superhero style. When he looked up (and the eyes adjusted ever so slightly), he simply said, “Hey everyone,” — Spider-Man had arrived in the MCU.

This was probably the most-anticipated entrance of any superhero that Marvel Studios had introduced into their cinematic universe and it definitely didn’t disappoint. The scene moves on and we see that Spidey is as excited to meet the rest of the Avengers as the fans were to see him on-screen.

Throughout the airport battle, we’re given a brilliant glimpse of what he’ll bring to the MCU. From the trademark wisecracks to the naive charm of the character, everything is displayed. His interaction with Tony Stark, in particular, is something that is heavily built on as we learn more about the character. There’s even a wonderful moment when he briefly bonds with Captain America when they compare which borough of New York they’re from. This was a perfect introduction for the hero.
