6. Defeating Mysterio

Peter’s Spider-Sense is the one power he has that is often a bit random. It seems to change its effectiveness depending on the writer and the story. In the MCU, this was the one power that didn’t seem to exist. That was until Avengers: Infinity War when we clearly see it in action. Sitting on the school bus, Peter’s arm-hair stands on end and it’s clear that he’s felt something. He then turns around and sees Thanos’s ship in the sky before springing into action.

This was developed further in Spider-Man: Far From Home when the power is given a name by Aunt May: the Peter Tingle. From there on, it goes on to play a key role in the film. Mysterio is the master of illusion and not everything is what it seems. Once Peter figures this out, he realizes that the only way to truly stop the villain is to rely on his Spider-Sense and not his eyes.

All around him are holograms that are tricking his eyes, but Peter ignores that and begins to systematically destroy all of the drones creating the illusion. Then, just as it seems that Peter has won, there’s one final illusion. He thrusts his hand to the right and grabs something, then the illusion fades and shows Mysterio holding a gun. Thanks to the tingling, he was able to stop the villain from shooting him in the head. This was a truly brilliant example of the Spider-Sense in action.
